Feeling Low on Energy After 40? Start With the Basics Before Chasing Another Energy Fix

There was a time when I thought being exhausted was simply part of getting older.

You wake up tired.

You push through the morning.

You need coffee.

By afternoon, you’re counting down the hours.

Then evening arrives and somehow you’re tired but wired at the same time.

Sound familiar?

Midlife can bring changes in sleep, stress, activity levels, nutrition and many other aspects of everyday life. But feeling constantly depleted doesn’t mean you should simply accept it.

The first step is to look at the basics.

Energy Starts With How You Live

Before searching for an energy supplement, ask yourself a few simple questions.

Am I eating enough nutritious food?

Am I getting enough protein?

Am I drinking enough water?

Am I moving my body?

Am I getting enough sleep?

Am I spending any time outdoors?

Am I constantly operating under stress?

These questions aren’t glamorous.

But they’re important.

Supplements can complement a healthy lifestyle. They can’t replace one.

A Product I’ve Included in My Wellness Favorites

One of the products featured on my Wellness page is Better Alt Pure Himalayan Shilajit Resin.

Shilajit is a naturally occurring mineral-rich substance traditionally used in Ayurvedic wellness practices. The Better Alt product featured on the site is marketed as a concentrated resin containing fulvic acid and trace minerals.

It’s important to approach products like this with realistic expectations.

You may see dramatic claims about energy, testosterone, weight loss, immunity and anti-aging when searching online.

Those claims can go far beyond what the evidence actually supports.

That’s why I prefer to think about shilajit as an optional wellness product rather than a miracle solution.

What I Look For in a Supplement

When I’m considering a supplement, I want to know several things:

1. What’s actually in it?

Look beyond the front of the package.

Check the ingredient list and serving size.

2. Is the product transparent?

Third-party testing and accessible quality information can be useful when evaluating supplements.

3. Does the product fit my routine?

The best supplement isn’t necessarily the most complicated one.

It’s the one that makes sense for your goals and circumstances.

4. Am I expecting too much?

This is the big one.

If someone tells you one product will fix your energy, hormones, weight, sleep and mood all at once, that’s a reason to slow down and investigate.

The Midlife Energy Reset

If your energy has been dragging lately, try this simple reset for one week.

Morning

Get outside for some natural light.

Drink water.

Eat a nourishing breakfast if that works well for you.

Include protein.

Afternoon

Take a short walk.

Don’t automatically reach for another coffee every time you feel tired.

Ask whether you actually need food, water, movement or a break.

Evening

Start winding down before you’re exhausted.

Reduce unnecessary screen time.

Create a consistent bedtime.

Every day

Do something that makes you feel like yourself again.

A walk.

Music.

Reading.

Gardening.

Talking to a friend.

Whatever reminds you that wellness isn’t just about numbers on a scale.

It’s about how you experience your life.

Don’t Ignore Persistent Fatigue

There’s an important distinction between having an occasional low-energy day and feeling exhausted most of the time.

Persistent or unexplained fatigue can have many possible causes.

If your energy has changed significantly or you’re experiencing ongoing symptoms, it’s worth talking with a healthcare professional rather than assuming you simply need another supplement.

Your body is giving you information.

Listen to it.

The Goal Isn’t More Energy at Any Cost

This is something I wish more women heard.

The goal isn’t to push yourself harder.

It’s to create a lifestyle that supports you.

Sometimes that means better food.

Sometimes it means more sleep.

Sometimes it means less stress.

Sometimes it means getting checked by your doctor.

And sometimes a supplement may have a place within that larger picture.

That’s the approach I want to take with Midlife Reset: practical, balanced and sustainable.
